The annual Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 Campaign will be observed across India from September 17 to October 17, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to cleanliness and sustainable living.

This year’s theme, “Swachhata Mein Sahbhag, Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat,” highlights the importance of collective participation and shared responsibility in building a cleaner and developed India.

Key focus areas include:

  • Transforming Cleanliness Target Units and high‑footfall public places.

  • Encouraging youth participation in cleanliness drives.

  • Promoting Swachhata se Samriddhi through circular economy and Waste‑to‑Wealth initiatives.

Launched in 2017, the campaign has become a cornerstone of the Swachh Bharat Mission, inspiring citizens to take ownership of their surroundings. On Gandhi Jayanti (October 2), Urban Local Bodies will organize special cleanliness drives at public places, along with tree plantation activities under the Ek Ped Maa ke Naam initiative.

States have also been urged to hold special programmes on October 7 to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years of public service.

Under the Swachh Bharat Mission, more than 12 crore toilets have been constructed nationwide, significantly reducing open defecation and enhancing the safety and dignity of women. The 2026 campaign aims to build on these achievements by linking cleanliness with sustainability and community participation.
