The National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP) has notified new registration regulations aimed at creating a structured system for allied and healthcare professionals across India. The Registration of Allied and Healthcare Professionals Regulations, 2026 were notified on August 31 and published in the Gazette of India on September 15.
The regulations establish a framework for registering eligible allied and healthcare professionals through both a Central Register and State Registers. The system is intended to create a more organised record of professionals working across different allied healthcare fields.
Under the new framework, registered professionals will be identifiable through official records maintained by the relevant authorities. The Central Register will be maintained by the National Commission, while State Councils will maintain their respective registers.
The registers will also be accessible to the public through the websites of the Commission and the respective State Councils. They will contain prescribed information about registered professionals, allowing individuals and institutions to verify professional registration.
The registration framework is expected to improve transparency in the delivery of allied and healthcare services by making professional credentials easier to check. It can also provide authorities with a more consistent system for maintaining records of professionals across the country.
For allied and healthcare professionals, registration will therefore become an important part of the formal regulatory framework governing their practice. The system also gives patients, employers and healthcare institutions a mechanism to confirm whether a professional is listed on the relevant register.
