Hiphop Tamizha Adhi is returning to the world of Meesaya Murukku with its sequel, nearly a decade after the 2017 film introduced a fictionalised version of his journey as a Tamil independent musician.

Titled Meesaya Murukku 2, the upcoming film is described as a spiritual sequel that explores the lives of three generations of musicians. The film is scheduled to release in theatres on September 25.

Speaking about the project, Adhi said the film draws from several personal experiences, including his long association with gaana music and its artists.

For years, the musician has worked with gaana performers and attempted to bring the street-rooted musical form to mainstream audiences. He said the response he encountered often made him question why gaana had not received the same recognition as other musical traditions.

The subject forms an important part of the new film, which looks beyond Adhi’s own story to examine the experiences and challenges faced by independent Tamil musicians.

Adhi’s journey has also extended beyond music into filmmaking and other creative ventures. Through his Tamizhanda Movement, he has continued to promote Tamil music and culture while working alongside artists and friends from the independent music scene.

With Meesaya Murukku 2, Adhi now hopes to revisit those themes while presenting a wider story about friendship, music, artistic ambition and the changing landscape of Tamil indie culture.
