Introduced in 2021 to add excitement to race weekends, Sprints are 100‑kilometre dashes held on Saturdays, setting the grid for Sunday’s Grand Prix. While the format has divided fans and drivers, F1’s leadership believes expanding the number of Sprints will enhance engagement and boost viewership.
The 2027 calendar also marks the return of iconic venues such as Portimao (Portugal) and Istanbul (Turkey), alongside traditional circuits.
