Alibaba Group has unveiled its new Zhenwu V900 AI chip and announced plans to develop a next-generation artificial intelligence model with between 5 trillion and 10 trillion parameters, expanding its push across AI hardware, models and cloud infrastructure.
The chip was introduced at Alibaba Cloud’s annual Apsara Conference in Hangzhou. Alibaba CEO Eddie Wu described the Zhenwu V900 as China’s most powerful AI chip and said it delivers around three times the performance of its predecessor, the Zhenwu M890.
The processor is being developed by Alibaba’s T-Head semiconductor unit. The company plans to begin mass production and commercial release of the V900 in the first quarter of 2027. Alibaba says the chips can be connected in clusters of up to 500,000 units to support the training and operation of large AI models.
Alongside the hardware launch, Alibaba outlined an ambitious roadmap for its Qwen AI models. The company’s current flagship, Qwen 3.8 Max, has 2.4 trillion parameters, while future models are planned to scale to between 5 trillion and 10 trillion parameters. Parameters are variables learned during training and are commonly used as a rough measure of model size.
Alibaba also plans to expand its global data-centre capacity to more than 20 gigawatts by 2032, reflecting its expectation of continued demand for AI computing.
The announcements highlight Alibaba’s strategy of developing AI capabilities across chips, cloud infrastructure and foundation models rather than relying on a single layer of the technology stack.
