Kartik Aaryan celebrated a major career milestone after winning the Best Actor award for Chandu Champion at the 72nd National Film Awards in Kevadia, Gujarat.
The actor received his first National Film Award for his performance in the sports drama, which highlights the determination and achievements of Paralympic athletes. The 2026 ceremony marked the first time the National Film Awards were held in Gujarat.
Speaking after the ceremony on September 22, Kartik expressed his happiness at receiving the honour and said his family and the entire Chandu Champion team were thrilled by the recognition.
Kartik also visited the Statue of Unity during his time in Kevadia and spoke about the significance of the award for his career.
Chandu Champion, directed by Kabir Khan, follows the journey of Murlikant Petkar, an Indian Paralympic gold medallist who overcame significant challenges to pursue excellence in sport.
The National Film Award adds another significant achievement to Kartik’s career and brings attention to a film centred on resilience, determination and the achievements of athletes with disabilities.
The ceremony also saw several other members of the Indian film industry being recognised, including music composer GV Prakash Kumar.
