The United States Mission in Saudi Arabia has issued a security alert for its citizens and government staff following a series of Houthi attacks targeting the kingdom.
The alert requires US employees to obtain special authorisation for all travel to Taif and Yanbu, citing the “ongoing security situation.” American citizens in Saudi Arabia have been urged to remain vigilant, avoid large gatherings, and follow instructions from local authorities.
The warning comes after Houthi militants launched ballistic missiles and drone strikes towards Saudi cities, including Riyadh, Bish, Taif, Farasan, and Yanbu. Saudi‑led coalition forces intercepted a missile aimed at Riyadh, while authorities reported an explosion and smoke near the capital’s airport. No casualties were confirmed.
The US Mission advised citizens to enrol in the Smart Traveller Enrollment Program (STEP), monitor local media, and maintain a low profile. Precautionary measures include staying away from windows during aerial threats and exercising caution at locations linked to the United States.
The State Department continues to maintain a Level 3 “Reconsider Travel” advisory for Saudi Arabia, citing risks from armed conflict, terrorism, and Iranian drone and missile attacks. Meanwhile, Qatar strongly condemned the Houthi strikes, calling them violations of Saudi sovereignty and international law.
