Indian benchmark indices ended lower on Tuesday, September 22, despite positive cues from global markets and easing crude oil prices. Selling pressure in IT, financial and capital goods stocks weighed on the domestic market.
The 30-share BSE Sensex declined 329.91 points, or 0.44%, to settle at 74,529.08. During the session, the index fell as much as 435.28 points, or 0.58%, to 74,423.71.
The Nifty also closed lower at 23,329 as investors remained cautious amid weakness across key sectors.
Among the Sensex constituents, Bajaj Finserv, Trent, Bajaj Finance, Sun Pharma, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and UltraTech Cement were among the major laggards.
The decline came despite a supportive global backdrop, with international markets showing a positive trend and crude oil prices easing. However, weakness in domestic IT and financial stocks limited the impact of these favourable cues.
The latest session follows continued volatility in Indian equities, with investors tracking global market movements, oil prices and sector-specific developments.
