The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is reviewing its Chartered Accountancy curriculum to prepare future professionals for rapid technological changes in the accounting and finance sector.
The revised curriculum is expected to place greater emphasis on artificial intelligence, data analytics, sustainability, environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices and forensic auditing.
ICAI has constituted the Committee for Review of Education and Training (CRET) to examine changes to the formal CA education and training structure. The objective is to give students greater practical exposure to technology and data-driven tools before they enter the profession.
ICAI President Prasanna D Kumar said the institute has already introduced technology-oriented training programmes for students and members and is working on further changes to the formal curriculum.
The institute is also looking at an international programme for students based overseas, as part of efforts to expand the global reach of the CA qualification.
The proposed changes come as accounting firms increasingly use automation, artificial intelligence and advanced data tools for auditing, compliance and financial analysis. The curriculum review is aimed at ensuring that CA students develop skills relevant to these evolving professional requirements.
