The Delhi High Court on Friday directed Meta Platforms to immediately remove an objectionable morphed image of a woman posted on social media alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Justice Girish Kathpalia, while hearing the woman’s plea, described the matter as an “extraordinary position,” noting that it concerned not only the dignity and safety of the woman but also the country’s Prime Minister.
The petitioner informed the court that she had been receiving threats to her life following circulation of the morphed image. In response, the court ordered the police to provide her complete protection. The matter has been listed for further hearing on October 14, 2026.
The case highlights growing concerns over morphed images, online harassment, and misuse of social media platforms. Legal experts say the ruling underscores the judiciary’s increasing focus on safeguarding individuals from digital abuse while holding tech companies accountable for content moderation.
