Veteran Kannada actor Anant Nag has dedicated the Dadasaheb Phalke Award to the people of Karnataka, crediting the state’s film industry and cultural environment for shaping his five-decade career.
The 77-year-old actor said the opportunities he received in Karnataka allowed him to work across both commercial and art-oriented cinema. He emphasised that the support of filmmakers, producers, fellow actors and audiences played an important role in his journey.
Anant Nag also highlighted the character of Karnataka’s cinema audience, describing them as knowledgeable and discerning. According to the actor, this environment encouraged filmmakers and performers to explore different forms of storytelling while maintaining a strong connection with audiences.
His career spans several decades and includes work across Kannada cinema as well as other Indian-language productions. His performances have made him one of the prominent figures associated with the evolution of Kannada cinema.
Speaking about the honour, Anant Nag said that the kind of career he built would not have been possible for him elsewhere, underlining his strong association with Karnataka and its cultural landscape.
